Why did you choose Brown Pre-College?
I chose Brown Pre-College because I wanted the chance to receive an incredible acting education from one of the top Arts schools in the nation. This opportunity was a dream come true for me not only for the invaluable experience, but also because it ended right before my musical theater intensive began which would allow me to get the best of both worlds this summer. I also hoped this program would give me a glimpse of college life and help me establish a sense of independence.
Favorite experience at Brown Pre-College?
Exploring Providence with friends was one of the highlights of my time at Brown Pre-College. Providence had such an unexpected incredible food scene, and I can honestly say everything I ate was a 10/10. This was my first time being away from family for an extended period of time and Brown Pre-College helped me grow so much as I learned how to do laundry, order Ubers, manage my time better, and not be afraid to try new things.
What course did you take and what did you learn in your course?
I took Acting for three weeks and learned how to ground myself, properly pace lines, correct breathing techniques for singing, and how to artistically collaborate by ensuring everyone's ideas are used. Thanks to Mrs. Becky and Ms. Connie I feel more self-assured as a performer and equipped with sharper skills to confidently audition and act with greater stage presence.
Did your course impact what you want to do in the future? If so, how did it do so?
Taking this course affirmed my decision to pursue acting as a career as it provided a more in depth look into the industry. I got to understand acting from both the director and actors perspective as well as the discipline it takes to successfully challenge yourself. Whenever someone had to work a song or monologue, I got to see the creative process of how a director allows their vision to be transferred to the stage. It was inspiring to see ideas from so many people executed in real time, while also learning to be patient with yourself if mistakes are made.
Favorite meal in the dining hall or favorite activity or favorite memory on campus?
Trying to bake a birthday cake while missing an actual baking pan was something I will never forget. It seemed like the batter would overflow the entire time and the movie was almost over before it finally looked semi-edible. The taste was definitely interesting, but I enjoyed every minute of the process. The lounge hangouts in Marcy House were also a favorite pastime because they provided a chance to socialize, learn new games, and have our own impromptu karaoke nights singing at the top of our lungs.
