Course-Based Research Experiences (CRE)

Propose, design, and conduct your own research project, working on topics and seeking answers to questions that are currently unknown to the specific discipline.

Course-based Research Experiences (CRE) provide students with the opportunity to work through the process of proposing and conducting independent research, building from questions that are currently unanswered by science.

Students interested in a Pre-College CRE will participate in a five-week hybrid course, spending the first two weeks online learning the necessary content, conducting a literature review to determine possible research questions and learning research methodologies. You will then prepare their hypothesis and experimental design and join the campus community for the last three weeks, where you will complete your research project. The experience culminates in a CRE Symposium, which is an opportunity for each student to present and disseminate their findings. The experience is fluid, as you find success and experience failure as you progress – much like a true research lab.
