Student Highlight: Pradyu J.

Welcome to our Student Highlight series! Today we hear from Pradyu J., who attended Brown Pre-College in Summer 2026.

What course did you take and what did you learn in your course?

I chose to take Chemistry in Drug Discovery: From Lab to Laptop. So far, we have learned how to separate pigments of plants using Thin Layer Chromatography and how to use analytical tools like ADMETlab, ProTox 3.0, and PubChem to learn more about specific chemical compounds and to predict how they could harm/benefit the human body. Coming up, we are learning to synthesize our own aspirin and will use Machine Learning to create a predictive model to predict ideal drug candidates.

Did your course impact what you want to do in the future? If so, how did it do so?

Yes, the course is certainly impacting what I want to do in the future. Through the hands-on labs and group activities, the course is providing real-world experience with industry-level chemistry. Through taking this course, I know for certain that I want to pursue a career in chemistry.

Favorite meal in the dining hall or favorite activity or favorite memory on campus?

My favorite food in the dining hall is vanilla soft serve with Oreo pieces. My favorite activity has been playing basketball in the OMAC every day. My favorite memory on campus is meeting new people every day.
