Biography

Em Miller (they/them) recently completed their first semester in the Master's in Higher Education program at West Chester University (WCU), also serving as a Student Success Coach & Data Management Success Coach. Within this position, Em manages all student concern cases, conducts research on student success, and simultaneously meets with students on a weekly basis. Em also completed their Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science at WCU, graduating in Winter 2024.

Across the field of higher education, Em prioritizes both research-backed frameworks and community lived experiences. They are a grief educator, first-generation college student, Queer and identify as neurodivergent--all parts of their identity that shape how they approach student success. Through previous experiences as a K-12 substitute teacher, a college transition counselor for a historically underserved high school in the Philly suburbs, and a researcher on empathy in college neurodivergent populations, Em is determined to support students in all aspects of their wellbeing. They are particularly passionate about bridging the gap between college-intending students who fail to successfully transition to their college programs (colloquially called "summer melt").

Outside of work, Em loves coffee, reading, and volunteering. Every summer in a new city, they aim to try 30 or more new coffee shops... any recommendations for Providence are highly appreciated!
