Sebastian Curiel Ledesma recently completed his first year in the Master’s in Postsecondary and Higher Education program at Arizona State University, where he also works in the Education Outreach and Student Services department. In this role, he develops statewide campus events for K-12 students, helping them envision higher education as a tangible and attainable part of their future. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Arizona, and proudly refers to himself as a “SunCat”; a nod to his dual Wildcat and Sun Devil pride.
Sebastian’s approach to student engagement is grounded in both community-based practices and critical-constructive student development frameworks; drawing from both early constructive theory and critical perspectives on culture, power, and access. As a first-generation college student from an Arizona Border town, Sebastian brings a lived understanding of the challenges underrepresented students face in navigating higher education. His work is shaped by a commitment to building spaces where students are not only welcomed, but also empowered to develop the skills, confidence, and support systems needed to thrive within higher education. With a strong foundation in youth engagement and program development, he brings a student-centered approach to his role at Brown University. He is particularly passionate about helping students from diverse backgrounds feel a sense of belonging within higher education spaces.
Outside of work, Sebastian enjoys exploring the Providence food scene, discovering new neighborhoods, and recharging through exercise.
